I am very grateful to the Royal Meteorological Society and the Legacies fund which enabled me to attend the Cabot Institute/CREDIBLE summer school on Risk and uncertainty in natural hazards held in Bristol in July 2013.
Attendance at the summer school gave me the opportunity to rapidly broaden my knowledge of this field, particularly for those natural hazards outside of meteorology.
The timing of this summer school enabled me to meet and learn from world leaders in this field as well as start to make contacts with both other researchers in this area and delegates from industry at an early stage in the Robust Assessment and Communication of Environmental Risk (RACER) project I am currently working on.
