I was awarded a Legacies Fund Grant to support my attendance at the AMS 20th Symposium on Boundary Layers and Turbulence, held in Boston in July 2012. This was my first international conference and gave me the chance to present my work to a large number of researchers, about 200, working in this field from all over the world. It was exciting to meet so many people who had written papers that I have read and learn about the latest developments in boundary-layer meteorology. It also gave me the opportunity to promote my first paper, which had just been submitted to the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. I am very grateful to the Royal Meteorological Society, and to my supervisors, Robin Hogan and Helen Dacre for providing me with this opportunity.
