SPEAKER | Mr. Ken Cook, NE Centre Treasurer.

ABSTRACT | The Met Office informs us that Copley is the snowiest Met Office site in England, but is it? Just how accurate are the readings from any weather station and how dependent are they on human error / bias or technology? In this day of automated readings with little human input can we really rely on all the figures.

This talk will look at several observing problems from the ground with artificial grass compared with mown grass to Campbell Stokes sunshine recorders and electronic sunshine recorders to the top of the anemometer mast with thermometer screens thrown in between.
