Meeting a Global Temperature Goal of 1.5 C

At the climate negotiations in Paris in 2015, countries agreed to keep a rise in global temperatures due to human activity well below 2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees C. Subsequently countries invited the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to provide advice on the impacts of global warming of 1.5 degrees C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty.
The IPCC is expected to report in early October. This meeting will give an opportunity to explore the IPCC report in detail, as well as its policy relevance. The meeting will cover the background to the report, global temperature trends and projections, climate risks and adaptation requirements at 1.5 degrees C and 2 degrees C, emission scenarios including overshooting, options and challenges related to such scenarios, development and policy challenges and how the report will be used at the subsequent Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in December.
