ABSTRACT| Although historical losses from catastrophic weather events have traditionally been used in determining insurance and reinsurance underwriting, the birth of modern insurance begins with Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and continues with facing climate change. Kelsey Mulder, a catastrophe researcher at Hiscox Underwriting discussed how atmospheric science is used in the insurance and reinsurance industry and how it impacts the policy holders.
