Citation for James Paton Memorial Prize 2010

The photograph that won the prize is shown below. The vertical format kept the perspective of the sky in the picture while allowing close detail of the features in the foreground.  The structure of the tree and the fence contrasted well with the ephemeral nature of the fog and the cirrus, all well illuminated by the rising sun, with the colours varying from the brown of the foreground to the yellow of the sky.
